Income generation assistance was provided to 26 women from villages in Vavuniya north by CWRD on 10th August 2007. The funding assistance for this was provided by FORUT and ICRC.

The ceremony to hand over the assistance took place in the pubic hall in Kanagarayankulam in Vavuniya north. The assistance took the following forms.

Seven women were given 18 chickens each to develop home reared poultry rearing. Nine women were given sewing machines to help them generate an income from home
Five women were assisted with resourced and paddy seeds for paddy cultivation.
Three women were loan to start small retail shops.
One woman was given a goat.
One woman was given a cow.

Advice on savings, nutrition and greening of the land was given to the beneficiaries by experts at the event.
