A brand new building for the pappadam factory operating in Kilinochchi was opened on 11 February.

The factory began operating in the new building on the same day. Those who were present at the opening ceremony were given a run down of the operational details of the factory.

The all female staff of thirteen operates the factory. The women who work at the factory were originally beneficiaries of CWDR who have now obtained a paid employment that helps them to stand on their own feet.

A grinding mill has also been setup as part of the new building. Ground rice flour and tumeric powder produced at this mill will be packeted and marketed through the shops. This will become operational in a few weeks.The funds for the new factory building and other facilities were provided by UNDP.
