Total of seven Tamil civilians killed in Jaffna on Sunday

Seven Tamil civilians were killed on Sunday in separate incidents that took place in Manipay, Nelliady, Thenmarachchi, Kayts and Kopay. Incidences of mindless targeted murders of Tamil civilians by paramilitaries assisted by the Sri Lankan Army (SLA) are on the increase in Jaffna.

Three women shot and killed in Manipay

A mother, Bojan Arthanageswary (51), and her two daughters, Bojan Renuka (30) and Bojan Shanuka (23) were shot dead in their home late Sunday night by paramilitaries. When the gunmen fired bullets in all directions in the house, the father Nagendran Bojan (55) and son Bojan Ullasan (26) were hit and seriously injured. Their daughter Renuka is an actress who has performed in Tamil films in Northeast. Mr Bojan Senior worked as a head coordinator of Jaffna St John's Ambulance brigade.

Young man shot and killed in Nelliady

Navaratnarajah Jegatheeswaran (26) was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen who were on a motorbike on Nelliady-Kodikamam Road on Sunday morning. Mr Jagatheeswaran, from Rajakiramam in Karaveddy, was a Labourer who worked unloading cargo from lorries and was a father of four children.

Young man shot and killed in Thenmarachchi

Sellathurai Yogarajah (26) was shot and killed by the SLA while he was on his way to a Hindu temple in Kodikamam on Sunday morning. His body was found on Varani North Road near Suttipuram Amman temple in Kudamiyan. No further details are available.

Body of dead man found in Kayts

The body of Tharmarasan Tharmaseelan (37) was found with gunshot wounds 500 metres from a Sri Lankan Navy security post in Kayts town on Sunday morning. Residents said he was abducted and was missing since Saturday night. Residents said he was visiting a friend when the Sri Lankan Navy and paramilitaries entered the home and abducted him. Mr Tharmarasan, from Pandaitharippu, was a motorbike mechanic and a father of five children.

Body of dead man found in Kopay

The body of Loganathan (50), a security guard, was found in the Divisional Secretariat office Sunday morning. After postmortem examination, medical sources said he died of a heart attack. Later, residents in the area revealed that SLA soldiers entered the Divisional Secretariat office on Saturday night, indicating that the soldiers may have caused the man to panic and have a heart attack. Loganathan is from Puttur East.
