Sri Lankan Kfir bombs Kilinochchi hospital
On Wednesday 2 November around 2.00 pm, Sri Lankan Kfir bombers dropped bombs on the newly built Kilinochchi hospital full of patients. All together four bombs were dropped. Though none directly hit the hospital, the shockwaves destroyed the hospital roof and bomb fragments hit the doors. Pieces of bombs were found all over the hospital. Five people from the same family died in the nearby settlement.
Patients, including those who were seriously ill left their beds and ran outside in panic. New mothers carried their new born babies and ran out. The effect of the shock on patients is unimaginable. The entire hospital of more than 300 patients ran out and went home. Tamileelam police stopped all traffic on the A9 road to allowed the panicky patients and staff of hospital to run out.
Paniced school children The bombs fell on the nearby civilian settlement, 600 metres from the hospital, killing five people in one house. One of those killed was rushed to the same Kilinochchi hospital where the staff were already in panic. He died in the hospital. Two of the death were school students. The schools were about to be closed when the bombs came down. Children in the two nearby schools, Kilinochchi Mahavidhyalayam and the Kilinochchi Central college, screamed in panic. Parents rushed to the school screaming to grab their children. Some young students fainted in shock. Immediately after the bomb explosion which was only 2 Kms from the SLMM Kilinochchi office, SLMM monitors rushed to the scene to investigate. It was only yesterday that the LTTE delegation met the Co-chairs ambassadors in Colombo on their way back to Kilinochchi from Geneva. At that meeting the Co-chairs indicated that the GoSL has assured them that they will not initiate military offensives. What happened today in Kilinochchi was not a military offensive but state terrorism on hospital patients. This hospital is the major hospital serving the entire population in Vanni. LTTE Political Wing Leader, Tamilselvan, said that such a blatant attack in the middle of Kilinochchi city defies everything that the international community has been requesting. The latest bombing, the second since the Geneva talks last week, follows bombing in Vaharai yesterday when one civilian was killed killed. Scenes from the hospital:
