Sri Lankan Kfir bombs kill one and injure another baby – a children’s home also affected

Four Sri Lankan Kfir bombers dropped 16 bombs in Puthukkudiyiruppu in Mullaithivu yesterday around 5.30pm. Three people, including one year old baby Thansika were killed and 16 others were injured.

Eight of the injured with moderate injuries are admitted to the Ponnambalam hospital in Puthukkudiyiruppu. One with serious injury is admitted to the Kilinochchi hospital. Six with minor injuries are in the Puthukkudiyiruppu hospital. SLMM monitors have gone to the scene the same night and spoken to the injured and seen the bodies of those killed.

Ironically two bombs also fell in the Arivuchcholai complex which is the brother complex of Senchcholai which was bombed on 14 August killing 53 school girls. Unlike the Senchcholai complex which had shifted its children to a new complex in January, the Arivuchcholai complex still has more than 200 children living. The children escaped injuries since they had taken refuge in bunker. However, one boy sustained moderate injuries.

Nine homes were damaged (see picture). One of the families was in their bunker with their one month old baby. The bomb exploded only 8 metres from the bunker. The baby went into a coma and was rushed to the hospital. The baby is now out of danger.

One house that was damaged had 300 chickens kept in an enclosure. This has vanished without a trace. Another house in which a 12 year girl died and 6 members of the family were injured had two buses parked in its yard. These also completely disappeared.

One bomb (see picture) fell near a house but did not explode. Twenty people had taken refuge under a big tree only a few metres from this unexploded bomb. If it had exploded obviously the carnage will be much higher.
